This week your homework is to practice the
Mindfulness of Breathing once a day – practice could be a number of
things but the key is to remember to pause, deliberately, and pay attention to
your breathing, bringing the positive quality of mindfulness into your life
more and more.
It could be a minute or two, waiting in line, or 20 or 30
minutes, sitting or walking. Just open
the door, as the poem says.
You might also bring in some of the Metta Bhavana/ Cultivation of Loving Kindness practice by simply pausing to wish yourself well now and then.
Next week we will check in on how things have
gone – here are some questions you might consider:
What have
you discovered about yourself? about your body?
What do you wonder about?
What is
enjoyable about your practice? What are
the best times of day to practice?
What makes
you happy?
Then we will lead a full practice of the Metta Bhavana and if you like you can read about it in chapter 3 0f Paramananda’s book before the class. Chapter 11 is also helpful in starting a mediation practice.
